Skin Care - The Day Moisturizer

Moisturizing of the skin is very important.  The skin becomes flaky, blotchy, itchy, and worst of all wrinkles will appear when it's not hydrated. Drinking lots of water and having a good moisturizer is crucial in maintaining the skin's suppleness and also rejuvenation.  When applying moisturizer, the skin should be damp for better absorption.
The best moisturizers should agree with your skin type, contain UV protection, are non-comedogenic, and contain natural ingredients to nourish the skin.  For the past year I've been using a product from Lancome in which I like very much.

Bienfait Multi-Vital features a unique complex of nurturing Vitamins E, CG and B5, plus high potency moisturization for 24-hour ideal hydration. UVA/UVB SPF 30 Sunscreen and essential antioxidant protection to give skin what it needs to help fight the visible effects of environmental skin damage.

High Potency Daily Moisturizing Cream Vitamin Enriched UVA/UVB SPF 30 Sunscreen

My Use:  I have both the cream and the lotion of this product.  The cream is of course heavier and thicker in consistency compared to the lotion. I prefer using the cream during the colder seasons, and the lotion for the warmer seasons.  I apply this once a day in the morning all over my face before application of makeup.  I also try to hydrate myself as much as I can during the day by drinking water.

Lancome Skin Care Gift Set from Christmas.

High Potency Daily Moisturizing Lotion Vitamin Enriched UVA/UVB SPF 30 Sunscreen

My Results:
Lancome claims that with use of this product -  the skin will have an improved tone, texture, and radiance. After using this product for about a year, I do feel that my skin feels more hydrated and the skin tone/texture has improved dramatically.  I have had people noticing a difference on how my skin looks healthier as well.  However I still feel that my skin is slightly dry sometimes, and I do have combination to normal skin.  Yet.. I still love this product for now.

Cheers to your beautiful skin!

Skin Care - The Cleanser

Hi Everyone~
Here's a quick post on a favorite facial cleanser that I've been using for awhile now.  Believe it or not I've only purchased this product twice so far, and I can say this product lasts for a really long time (like about a year?!).  It's a Japanese product from the brand  Kose.  This brand has been around since 1946 and their goal is "to offer the highest quality cosmetic to each and every customer drawing on their original technologies -- to bring forth the radiance inherently in all women."  You can find this product at Yesstyle.com.
In particular, I am using Kose's Seikisho line.  The Seikisho line states that it  "promotes the purification and clarification of the skin by removing surface impurities and dullness to refine the skin tone, leaving the skin healthy, clean, and smooth."
The Seikisho Facial Soap contains Herbal Extracts such as: Citrus Unshiu Extract, Coix Seed Extract, Angelica Extract, Chamomile Extract

Medicated Seikisho Facial Soap
At first I was bit hesitant to try this product because it was packaged as a bar soap for the face.  I didn't like the fact that the whole product is completely exposed, as oppose to the normal bottled cleansers that I'm more accustomed to.  However as I began trying the bar soap I immediately felt the difference. It was gentle on my skin and it really cleanses thoroughly giving a clean feel.  I try not to wash my face too much in a day because its important for the skin to retain its moisture.  You don't want to overly wash the skin and strip away its natural oils, or the skin will produce even more oil - - - Ultimately leading to more break outs.
So anyway, I try to wash my face with just cold water in the morning, and at night I would use this facial soap for a thorough cleanse before I go to bed.  I would use this soap more only if I'm feeling especially oily that day or it's summer time.

My Use:  I would work up a small lather with the soap on my hands, and gently massage my face all over with the lather for about a minute then rinse with warm water.  I would then follow up with applying my other moisturizers.

My Results: The product claims to refine the skin to remove melanin & excessive sebum, and provide hydration to keep the skin looking smooth, transparent, & radiant.  Since using this product, I have noticed that my skin tone and texture has improved overall.  I used to have many tiny clogged pores on my forehead and was worried it may all turn into acne spots, but fortunately the soap has cleansed my skin thoroughly to a point that the clogged pores have now disappeared. So happy...

Graphic Tees Anyone?

Just found a cool new website WickyTees.Com the other day.  I'm a sucker for smart graphic tees.  Especially for those casual days where you just don't want to spend too much time on your wardrobe.  Having a funny tee or a tee with a nice design can become such a centerpiece for conversation without all that time and hassle.  It's simplicity at its best. =)

The website ranges from Designer Graphic Tees to Funny T-Shirts.  I found some of the tees pretty hilarious and I can't wait for the Funky Boombox Tee (pictured above) to go on sale.  I love how it gives a sense of an 80's retro feel, but yet it's spunky from all it's colors.  I love it!

Orange County

Hi Everyone! Hope you had a great weekend =)
Woke up this morning feeling a bit restless, and wanting to get away from the norm of the familiar.  So the boyfriend suggested to drive out to the OC.  It was such a beautiful day, and we both enjoyed it very much.  We wounded up in Westminster to have brunch.  Here are some pictures I took today:
We were in a plaza where the first floor was basically a huge food court serving Vietnamese cuisine, while the second floor was for shopping galore - from kiddie toys to fancy jewelry.  Here's a vendor with some exotic eats.

The food court was pretty packed!  Actually the whole entire mall was packed!!

We came just in time for the preparation of Chinese New Year.  This fair sold many of the New Year essentials.

Such a pretty day to explore and admire some flowers.

Yummy exotic fruits. Have you tried some of these goodies?

Lastly, I found some new nail colors to add to my nail polish collection.  From left: Pearl Beige, Pink Star, & Plum.  I can't wait to use these! ^^

Good Bye Clinique...

I've been using Clinique's take the day off makeup remover for lids, lashes, and lips for more than 3 years now.  I thoroughly enjoy how the product has a two layer oil and liquid system.  Every time I'm out of eye make up remover I usually run to my nearest department store or Sephora and pick this up.  This product says it's allergy tested, 100% fragrance free, and importantly - Ophthalmologist tested.  I have really sensitive skin, so I feel that when using this product it does feel gentle.  There's really no tugging of my eye involved.  I usually use this product for my eyes only.
So my routine for this product would be of course, used at night before I shower.  I would take some cotton pads to dabble some of Clinique's makeup remover, and gently place this on my eye and then lightly wipe off.  After I do the same for both eyes, I would rinse with cold water and hop into the shower and wash my entire face with my cleanser.
However, within the past year I've noticed that with the same routine, my eyes starting to feel a stingy sensation and my eyes would be hard to open because it's burning so much.  I started to really get annoyed at the burning sensation so I tried rinsing a little more with cold water after and cleaning my face longer, and it still didn't help.  I even made one my eye turn puffy as a result of rinsing my eye too much.  I was pretty sad to see that this product was becoming too harsh for me.

I'm almost done with the bottle! But I think I'm not going to finish it.

I had used Lancome's Bi-Facil (it's also in a 2 layer oil & liquid system) in the past and felt that it worked about the same as my Clinique. Lancome's Bi-Facil is only an eye make up remover and is also Ophthalmologist tested.   I do feel that it's more gentle than Clinique's possibly because it focuses on the eyes.  The prices between the two are very different for the same 4.2 fl oz.  Clinique's take the day off is probably half the price of Lancome's Bi-Facil, and it can be used for lids, lashes, and lips, as oppose to Lancome's Bi-facil  for eyes.  Since the two products worked the same in the past for me, I opted to stay with Clinique up until now.  I had received some Lancome products for Christmas and Bi-Facil was part of the gift.  So I've been using the Bi-Facil again with the same method, and I'm happy to find this product is working for me.  I guess it was just time to change products.

Have a GREAT WEEK!

Prologue~

My skin has gone through many ups and downs over the years – from stress related to being out in the sun, or being sleep deprived.  I noticed about a year ago my skin has been looking chalkier and dry. My skin tone has really suffered from acne.  When I was in my teens, I had no major acne problems and my skin was silky smooth.  I thought it was going to be like this for the rest of my life.  Unfortunately since graduating college and then working, my skin started to stress out and started showing signs that my body is becoming more imbalanced internally.  I really didn’t know what to do.  Before this acne problem I never really invested or done any research on preventative skin care.  Until the last 3-4 years I paid more attention to beauty and how to make the skin a little more flawless again.
I used many drugstore and high end products, including Proactiv’s 3 step program.  None of the drugstore or high end products were working for me.   Proactiv did work for awhile, however, I felt that the ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide was very harsh and it left my face towels bleached. If I wasn’t careful with what I was wearing, the Benzoyl Peroxide would bleach the collars of my clothes as well along with my pillow covers. I would have periods of calm skin and from time to time I would have reoccurrences of major breakouts.  I was extremely stressed out for the acne because the skin’s ability to regenerate becomes slower as we age.  I started to notice my acne scars were taking a long time to heal, and to add on top of it I would have reoccurring breakouts.  So how can I have nice skin if the acne kept coming back?
At first I was purchasing a lot of concealers thinking that I should hide my blemishes, when in reality I should be treating and preventing on top of concealing.  I even started to buy more make up thinking that by enhancing my eyes and lips etc, the acne will be lesser of a problem.  In the end, my confidence was really affected and I just wanted to hide be it make up or just staying away from social situations.
It never occurred to me what the source of the problem was.  So to fast forward, I started to get in tune with my body.  I was paying more attention to how my skin reacts to different food products and the environment.  In the end, I think my acne cure came from not a bottle…but my lifestyle.  I now try to stay relaxed and not stress out too much.  When you think about it, what good will the stress do for you?  It will not give you that raise, or give you better grades.  All it will give you is bad scars and take away your self confidence.  Most importantly you need good sleep, and make sure to sleep in the dark.  The body needs both bright and dark environments to stay in balance.  The sun will give the body the ability to synthesize Vitamin D, while the darkness will promote the production of Melatonin.  I don’t want to sound too scientific and possibly off topic.  What I’m trying to say is, in my experience when I gave my body time to regenerate itself, ie sleeping at night, my acne slowly calmed itself.  I still have some minor break outs here and there, but it's nothing like how it was before.   Remember rebalancing your body internally is crucial by sleeping right and eating right.  I eventually started to minimize the amount of products I used on my skin.
So when the acne became minimized, I naturally started to look for products that will heal and even out my skin tone.  It feels like an ongoing search for the best products for the perfect skin.  So for the next few entries, I will share beauty products I feel are helpful.
If I had to give a few simple rules to live by for healthy skin (and you probably heard it before) you must live by this religiously if you want to end the acne battle.  So here it is:
1)      SLEEP (make sure the room is dark)
2)      Drink plenty of water, and eat right - - meaning lots of fruits and veggies, stay away from greasy foods
3)      Balance your diet and not overeat, be in tune with your body’s changes (but it’s ok to step outside the lines and indulge sometimes)
Be happy and try to not take life too seriously and RELAX

Enjoying the Sunshine...

Hello...it's been a while since I last blogged.  I, unfortunately, caught the cold bug after New Years.  It totally drained me out from its coughing, sneezing, and headaches.  I'm so glad everything is better now.  I don't know about you, but after getting over a cold/flu I feel that the body is anew again.  As weird as it may sound, and I don't promote getting sick, I feel that when you're drinking lots of fluids and resting- - you're actually giving your body time away from the normal stress encountered daily, and giving yourself a mini vacation.   No one can bother you bc you'll get them sick.. HaHa   I noticed that my skin is clearer and pores are less visible...interesting indeed.  So when you're sick just look on the bright side.  Even though you're feeling miserable and sick, maybe it's a sign to slow down a little and take care of what matters most...like your health and before you know it, you're all better with even better skin! But don't get sick all the time!
Stay warm and healthy guys!

I drank loads of freshly squeezed orange juice to feel better, and I'm not kidding..it works like a charm.  These are home grown organic oranges. So much more yummier!

I swear by Emergen-C.  These babies are packed with Vitamin C and other nutrient goodness to give you more energy and it also boosts up your immune system.  It's a nice fizzy drink that will make you feel better faster.
